The Power of Portraits

What I love about portraits, for commercial as well as private portraits, is the way it ‘pauses’ the face. In our everyday lives, our faces are constantly moving. Emotions pass fleetingly across our features, and then they’re gone. Portraiture allows us to see one of those split-second moments when the face is at its most perfect, its most beautiful or its most intriguing. Part of my job as the photographer is to encourage my subject to wander into thoughts that take them beyond the current moment, and to capture them. When people look at the image they can’t help but ask, “What is she thinking?” If you can capture this moment on their face, then you capture the viewer too.

Why Have Your Portrait Done?

Have you ever wanted to look back to a period in your life, but you can’t find a single photograph? Or the ones you do find aren’t the ones you want to see. Then you remember that at the time, you didn’t want to be photographed. Having just turned 40, I’ve been having these very feelings. Or worse, you missed a phase of one of your children’s lives because they didn’t want to be photographed.

A professional portrait session removes the stress of worrying about how you’ll look in photographs, because you get to dress up and have your hair, makeup and nails done. You can trust that I’ll always capture you at your best because it is the sole aim of a portrait session with me – to show you yourself at your most gorgeous.

Don’t wait 10 or even 5 years to be disappointed that there is no record of who you were. Photographs are like family heirlooms, they’re part of your history and your history should show you at your best!

Local Businesses

Working with local businesses doing headshots, personal branding and commercial work is really important to me. I want to help local businesses throughout Kent to thrive through the images I create for them. I work with small businesses to understand the business, the designer  and the product in order to sketch out what images might work best for them. I’m particularly drawn to creativity in others, whether they are designing clothes, jewellery or, like dancers, using themselves as art. I enjoy the sense of shared endeavour.

Portrait sessions are at my home studio in Faversham, Kent or at a location of your choice. If you want help choosing a location, just ask. Get in touch to talk about your portrait photography shoot.
